Wechat – Awesome Apps one must have in China

Wechat is a must have APP here in China

This APP is equivalent to Skype + Paypal + Your wallet +  Ebay + a whole bunch of service apps you are used to having. You literally wouldn’t need to bring anything with you other than your Phone when you leave the house.

Adding friends

WeChat unlike many other social network software doesn’t allow you to  look up names and add random people, so you would literally need to  know or be related to that person somehow in order to add him/her. (making new friends might not be as easy as you think)

Click on the + Icon located on the top right-hand corner under the Chats Icon, and select Add contacts. Type in ether a screen name or a phone number to add the person as a friend. You can find the same icon on the top right-hand corner under the Contacts icon.

Instead of asking for screen names of different people, you could simply generate your own QR code and have people scan it.

Click on “Me” icon on the bottom right of your screen, tap on your name located on the top of the page.

Click on “My QR Code” and have your friend scan it.

You might be asked to join different groups on WeChat, you will be able to access and add all the members within the group by clicking on the People Icon on the top right corner of the group and tap on whichever member you would want to add.

Making a payment

The other cool function about WeChat is you could use it to make a payment. To do this, you would first need to link your bank card to it.

1 – Click on the “ME” icon on the bottom and select Wallet

2 – Tap on the “Cards” Icon located on the top right of the page.

3 – Click on “Add a new card” Here the system should ask you to insert a 6 digit code for verification( this will be used as your pin number from this point onwards, so make sure you memorize it)

4 – Insert your card number along with the phone number you registered it with at the bank, and there you have it. (How to apply for a bank card)

There are two ways to make a payment

A: Have the merchant scan your QRcode

Tap on ME icon, tap on wallet, and click on Money on the top left corner, a QR code will appear for the merchant to scan.

B:  Scan the merchant’s QR code:

Tap on the Discover icon and select Scan QR code

After scanning, you should either see the price you need to pay, or enter the price on your own,as you make the payment.

Good question, in terms of security I think they are pretty similar. But since wechat is the social app everybody use here in China, it’s simply growing in popularity is all.
